A Deep Sworn Vow
William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

The Rhyme Maker
William Butler Yeats.
William Butler Yeats
1865-1939

Theme:  Love and Romance

NOTES:
A Nobel Laureate (1923 – Literature), W. B. Yeats was an important force not only in the Irish Renaissance in Literature of the 20th Century, but an important writer throughout the English-speaking world.  Involved also in Ireland's tense political scene, he served in the Irish Senate for two terms late in his life.  As a poet, he moved smoothly and brilliantly with the “new-fangled” free-verse that was born in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, while maintaining artistic excellence in traditional poetry forms.

Stop Button Clutter!
A Deep Sworn Vow
William Butler Yeats (1865-1939), Irish poet/dramatist

Others because you did not keep
That deep-sworn vow have been friends of mine;
Yet always when I look death in the face,
When I clamber to the heights of sleep,
Or when I grow excited with wine,
Suddenly I meet your face.

from The Wild Swans at Coole (1919)
