The Rhyme Maker
Robert Burns
Robert Burns
1759-1796

Theme:  Tributes and Toasts

NOTES:
Robert Burns is universally noted as the national poet of Scotland.  He is best known for his poems and songs written with a heavy Scot dialect.  If this website broadened its scope to include poetry involving all “adult beverages”, this Scottish bard would indeed have a strong presence here.

Burns also collected the folk songs of his native land, often revising them to create his own adaptations. Such is the case with his most well-known song, "Auld Lang Syne" – a popular anthem for greeting the New Year throughout the English-speaking world.

The Toast
Robert Burns (1759-1796), Scottish poet

Fill me with the rosy wine,
Call a toast, a toast divine:
Giveth me Poet’s darling flame,
Lovely Jessie be her name;
Then thou mayest freely boast,
Thou hast given a peerless toast.
