The Rhyme Maker
Beal, American poet
An impassioned press of skin
Wrings prestigious blood

Calling forth luscious ghosts
Like odes to earth and sky.
Sanguine muses dip their pens
In inkwells ancient and crimson,
As the vines that unfold in their
Composing their way
Across the palate,

Then move on,
Singing madrigals to raisin and berry
To beds of straw, to fire and ice.
I swallow them whole before singing
